Teaching a Child with Unique Abilities

Things to Remember:

  • Allow your children to excel in what they enjoy for self-confidence, joy, and love of learning.

  • If it can be taught, it can be learned. It just needs to be taught using a strategy and level they will grasp and retain.

  • The more senses that are used in teaching, the better they will be able to make connections and retain information. Explore! Play!

  • Paper and pen tests will not give any accurate information as to what they are learning. Performance assessment is a must.

There are so many paths to choose from when you decide to homeschool. Some families take the unschooling approach, but some need more structure. If you need a starting point, below are the curriculums and websites I have come across over the past 20 years of teaching, evaluating other families, tutoring children, and homeschooling my own children with unique abilities. They are listed in alphabetical order under each topic.

Reading Programs:

Spelling Programs:

Social Studies Programs:

Writing/Grammar Programs:

If there are websites or curriculums not listed here that you have come across and think they should be checked out, please leave them in the comments.
